> Why a Vet Referral Form...
Recently a few customers have asked why they need
a completed Vet Referral Form from their vet.
The Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 was put in place to
regulate the treatment of animals. Under its provisions
only veterinary surgeons may legally diagnose, prescribe,
advise on the basis of a diagnosis, and perform surgery
on animals.
There are few exceptions, however qualified osteopaths,
chiropractors, physiotherapists and hydrotherapists may
treat animals independently when the treatment is
recommended in writing by your vet – hence the need
to have a completed Vet Referral Form.
As a safeguard, it also allows us to determine whether
there are any other underlying factors which may affect
the successful treatment of your dog.
